Overview of field modification constraints in Base

Availability: This feature is in beta.
When you modify a field in a table with over 100,000 records, it takes 10 to 100 seconds for the modification to take effect. At the same time, responses to other actions slow down. To avoid affecting the experience of other collaborators in the base, constraints have been applied to field modifications.
II. Description
Prerequisites:
  • The table has more than 100,000 records.
Scope of constraints
Constraints will be applied to the following field modifications:
  • Turning off Allow adding multiple members in one record in person fields.
  • Turning off Allow adding multiple groups in one record in group fields.
  • Creating, copying, or pasting numbering fields or changing its numbering type.
  • Creating, copying, or pasting person fields or created by fields with Retrieve more personnel information turned on.
  • Creating, copying, or pasting advanced fields, such as created by, modified by, date created, and last modified date.
Field modification constraint details
  1. When the modification of a field is not completed, you cannot modify another field. You will get a message stating "Unable to modify the field multiple times in the table with over 100,000 records. Please retry after the previous modification is complete. Estimated wait time: 1 minute".

  1. You can't make other modifications while the field is being modified. You'll see a prompt stating "Modifying field...Please wait for completion before proceeding."

At the same time, the field will become unavailable for the time being. For example, you cannot edit the cells under the field or reference the field for filtering, grouping, advanced permissions, and other settings.

Note: When there is a field modification, both the modifier and collaborators can click Modifying the field... in the upper-right corner of the table to view modification details including the field title, modification type, and modifier.

  1. If there are other collaborators in the base when you modify a field, a prompt will appear to remind you that the modification will take some time and will affect other users. You click click Confirm if you want to proceed with the modification.

Note: This prompt will only appear when the number of collaborators in the base (including you) is greater than or equal to two. People who have turned off Show view history or Show me in real-time do not count towards this collaborator number.
