Follow a record in Base

Follow a record in Base

2 min read
I. Intro
You can follow a record to receive notifications when the content of the record changes to keep track of important updates in a timely manner.
Note: To follow a record, you must be in the same organization as the owner of the base.
II. Steps
Follow a record
You can follow updates for a record by clicking Follow on the record details page:
Right-click a record > Expand Details, or click Details in the index field of a record. Click Follow in the upper-right corner of the page. Click it again to unfollow.

Auto-follow after editing
If you have edit permission for a record, you will automatically follow a record when you make edits to it on the record details page.
Record details page here refers to the page that is opened when you click the Details button in the index field; or when you click a kanban view or gallery view card or a record that is shared.

Note: You will only auto-follow a record when you edit it on the record details page. Editing in grid view, Gantt view, and other locations will not trigger auto-following.
Notification triggers
  • Updates that will trigger notifications: Editing and clearing of field content (including updates triggered by automated workflows or APIs).
  • Updates that will not trigger notifications, but will appear in record history:
  • Bulk editing: Such as bulk copying and pasting data in grid view, and bulk API entries.
  • Editing fields: Such as changing field types and deleting fields.
  • The editor of the record (The person who triggered the update) will not receive update notifications.
  • The notification will be sent by a bot for the base. Click View Details to jump to the last modified field, which will be highlighted.
III. FAQs
Why can't I see the "Follow" button for a record?
You and the base owner may not be in the same organization.
If someone follows a record but does not have view permission for a certain field in the record, will they receive a notification when I edit a cell in that field?
No.
I followed a record. Will I still receive update notifications after losing access to the record?
No. After losing access to the record, you will no longer receive notifications. If your permission is restored, notifications will resume.
