DEC2BIN function for Sheets

I. Intro
The DEC2BIN function converts a decimal number to a binary number.
II. About the function
  • Formula: =DEC2BIN(decimal_number,[places])
  • Parameters:
  • decimal_number (required): The decimal value that you want to convert to a binary number (string representation).
  • places (optional): The number of significant figures to return.
  • Example: =DEC2BIN("100",8)
  • Note:
  • If the number is not a decimal value, then DEC2BIN returns the error value #VALUE!.
  • If DEC2BIN requires more "places" than specified, it returns the error value #NUM!.
  • If "places" is not an integer, it is rounded up or down.
  • If "places" is not a value, then DEC2BIN returns the error value #VALUE!.
  • If "places" is a negative value, then DEC2BIN returns the error value #NUM!.
III. Steps
Use the DEC2BIN function
  1. Select a cell and click Formulas on the toolbar, then select Engineering > DEC2BIN. You can also directly enter =DEC2BIN in a cell.
  1. Enter the parameters in the cell. For example: =DEC2BIN(A3).
  1. Press Enter to display the result, which is 10 in this example.
  1. Drag the + icon in the lower-right corner of the cell to apply the formula to other cells.

Delete the DEC2BIN function
Select the cell with the DEC2BIN function, and press Delete.
