I. Intro
Applicable scope: Instructions in this article apply to all document types in Lark Docs, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, Base, MindNotes, and uploaded files, as well as folders.
You can turn on password protection for documents and folders that are accessible to external users. External users will be required to enter a password to access the document or folder while internal users are not.
Note: Only collaborators with manage permission for a document or folder can turn on and off password protection.
II. Steps
Prerequisite: The link sharing range of the document or folder is "Anyone with the link".
Turn on password protection for sharing
- Click Share in the upper-right corner of the document or the right pane of a folder.
- In the sharing panel, click Set password to the right of Link sharing, or the Secure link icon at the bottom of the panel.

- In the pop-up, click Copy Link and Password. Or click Change Password as needed.

- Send the link and password to the external users you want to share with and they'll be able to access the document or folder with the password.
Manage password
After enabling password protection, you can change the password or turn off the protection as needed.
- Click Share in the upper-right corner of the document or the right pane of the folder.
- In the sharing panel, click Password Settings to the right of Link sharing.

- In the Password settings window, you can do the following:
- To modify the password, click Change Password. Enter a new password or use the auto-generated password in the pop-up, then click Save.

- Note: The password must be between 8 and 18 characters long and contain at least two of the following: numbers, English letters, or English symbols.
- To turn off the password protection, deselect Require password, and click Done.
- Note: If you turn off link sharing or change link sharing range to your organization, the password protection will be turned off automatically.
