GAMMAINV function for Sheets

1 min read
I. Intro
The GAMMA.INV function returns the inverse value of the gamma cumulative distribution based on the probability, alpha, and beta parameters. This is the inverse of the GAMMA.DIST function, and works the same as GAMMAINV.
II. About the function
  • Formula: =GAMMA.INV(probability, alpha, beta)
  • Parameters:
  • probability (required): The input to the inverse gamma distribution function. Must be between 0 and 1.
  • alpha (required): The alpha (or shape) of the gamma distribution. Must be positive.
  • beta (required): The beta (or inverse-scale) of the gamma distribution. Must be positive.
  • Note: If beta = 1, GAMMA.INV will return the standard gamma distribution.
  • Example: =GAMMA.INV(0.65,4,2)
III. Steps
Use the GAMMA.INV function
  1. Select a cell and click Formulas on the toolbar, then select Statistical > GAMMA.INV. You can also directly enter =GAMMA.INV in a cell.
  1. Enter the parameters in the cell. For example: =GAMMA.INV(0.65,4.2).
  1. Press Enter to display the result, which is 8.909358869 in this example.
