Make a copy in Lark Docs

2 min read
I. Intro
🔖
Notice: Instructions in this article apply to all document types in Lark Docs, including Docs, Sheets, Base, Slides, MindNotes, and uploaded files.
When you cannot move a document to a new location, you can create a copy in the new location.
The copy will include the contents of the original document and its set security level. However, it won't include the original comments, edit history, sharing settings, or permission settings. The sharing and permission settings of the copy depend on its location and your default settings.
Who can create copies and print?
  • Document owners or collaborators with manage permission.
II. Steps
There are three ways that you can create a copy of a Lark document.
Note: You need to have edit permission for the location where you want to save the copy. If the storage location is a page in My Document Library or Wiki, then you need to have edit permission for that page and all its sub-pages at the same time.
Method 1: From the document
  1. Open a document and click the ··· icon in the upper-right corner > Make a Copy.
  • 250px|700px|reset
  1. Modify the copy name as needed, choose where to store it, and click Confirm.
Method 2: In the folder
  1. Open the folder where the original document is located, and click the ··· icon to the right of the document > Make a Copy.
  • 250px|700px|reset
  1. Modify the copy name as needed, choose where to store it, and click Confirm.
Method 3: From the Docs homepage
Note: This method doesn't work on the Lark mobile app.
  1. Open the Docs homepage, or click Wiki and the cover of a wiki space.
  1. In the table of contents to the left, click the ··· icon to the right of a document or wiki page > Make a Copy.
  1. (Optional) For wiki pages with sub-pages, you can also select Duplicate sub-pages to make copies of the sub-pages together. Or you can click the Multi-selection icon above the table of contents to select multiple pages, then click the Make a Copy icon to create copies for the selected pages only.
  • 250px|700px|reset
  1. Modify the copy name as needed, choose where to store it, and click Confirm.
III. FAQs
Why can't I find the button to make a copy, or why is the button grayed out?
This is likely because your current permissions do allow you to copy the document. Contact the document owner to modify the permission settings.
Why does the operation fail when I try to make a copy of a document?
This may be due to the number of tables pasted in the document exceeding 500. Make a copy of the tables, delete them, then make a copy of the document and paste the tables into the new document.
How do I restrict others from making a copy?
If you're the document owner or a collaborator with manage permission, you can restrict others from making a copy.
  1. Click Share in the upper-right corner of the open document and then click Permission settings.
  1. Go to Who can duplicate, print or download and make the change as you need. For more information, see Set share, copy, download, and comment permissions for documents.
How to copy the full text of a doc?
  1. Click anywhere in the doc, then press Ctrl + A (Windows) or Command ⌘ + A (Mac) twice to select the full text.
  1. Press Ctrl + C (Windows) or Command ⌘ + C (Mac), or right-click and select Copy.
