After enabling a domain in the Lark Admin Console, the administrator needs to go back to Tencent Exmail and replace the Lark domain with the enabled domain. Otherwise, errors may occur when sending and receiving emails using the domain enabled for Lark Mail. This article describes how to change the domain in both the Tencent Exmail Admin Console and WeCom Admin Console. Organizations without a separate Tencent Exmail Admin Console only need the WeCom Admin Console to complete these steps.
Note: Tencent Exmail Basic Edition only supports the addition of one domain. You must delete the original domain before adding a new one or upgrade to the Professional Edition. Deleting the domain will also delete all data in the mailbox. Please proceed with caution.
II. Tencent Exmail Admin Console
  1. Add an alternate domain in Tencent Exmail
Go to My Organization > Domain Management > Add Domain in the Tencent Exmail Admin Console to add a new domain.
Note: We recommend using a subdomain of the original email. For example, if the original email domain is example.com, you can use 1.example.com as the alternate domain. If your organization has its own alternate domain, you can use the alternate domain directly.
  1. Configure alternate domain resolution in the domain Admin Console
Use a third-level domain (example: 1.example.com)
In the domain admin console, go to the Resolution Settings page for the domain example.com and click Add Record.
Enter the third-level domain prefix in the Host Record field and fill out other fields according to the values provided by Tencent Exmail. For example, enter 1 for the third-level domain name 1.example.com.
Use the alternate domain of your organization
In the domain admin console, go to the Resolution Settings page for the alternate domain and click Add Record.
Enter @ in the Host Record field and fill out other fields according to the values provided by Tencent Exmail.
  1. Complete domain replacement in Tencent Exmail
Go back to Tencent Exmail and complete the mailbox resolution verification.
Click Batch Add Aliases and batch replace email addresses using example.com with the domain 1.example.com (or the alternate domain).
  1. Delete the Lark domain in Tencent Exmail
Go to the Domain Details page and delete the domain example.com. This action can only be completed by a primary administrator (the creator).
Note: Deleting a domain will erase all data. Please be sure to add an alternate domain before deleting a domain.
III. WeCom Admin Console
🔖
Notice: Organizations without a separate Tencent Exmail Admin Console only need the WeCom Admin Console to complete these steps.
  1. Add an alternate domain
  1. Go to the WeCom Admin Console and click Collaboration > Email. In Email Domain, click Manage.
  1. In the Domain Management page, click Add Domain, then select Migrate Now under Migrate Email Server Now.
  1. Enter the alternate domain and click Next.
  • Note: We recommend using a subdomain of the original email. For example, if the original email domain is example.com, you can use 1.example.com as the alternate domain. If your organization has its own alternate domain, you can use the alternate domain directly.
  1. Assign emails
  1. Enter the domain, then go to the page to assign emails and select the scope of emails to assign under the domain.
  • Note: You would usually select to assign to all members because you are replacing the original domain, or you could assign to members already migrated to Lark Mail.
  1. Click Download List to download a list of members and their assigned emails.
  1. Once you have configured members' company emails, click Upload List. Once imported, click Next.
  1. Configure domain MX record
Once you have assigned members' emails, go to the Domain Resolution page. Follow the prompts to configure the Tencent Exmail MX record for the domain service provider. Once you're done, click Complete and Verify.
  1. Check Tencent Exmail contacts
Go to WeCom and check whether the company email addresses of all members in Contacts have been migrated to the new domain.
  1. Delete the old domain
Go back to the WeCom domain admin console. Click the old domain of the migrated emails and delete it.
Note: You need a WeCom account with creator permissions for the delete action.
