I. Intro
🔖
Who can perform these steps: Primary administrators.
A supergroup is a group with over 5,000 members. If you're a primary administrator, you can turn internal groups or topic groups into supergroups in the Lark Admin Console.
Note: You cannot configure external groups as supergroups.
II. Steps
Create a supergroup
Warning:
  • Your organization can only have 5 supergroups.
  • If a group is set as a supergroup, it cannot be reverted to a regular group unless you disband it. Disbanding the group will free up your quota for creating new supergroups. Therefore, if you are testing this feature, we recommend creating a new group chat.
  1. Go to the Lark Admin Console and click Product Settings > Messenger > Supergroups > Add Supergroups.
  1. In the Add Supergroups window, enter the link of the group you want to turn into a supergroup. Then, click Confirm.
  • 250px|700px|reset
  1. After creating the supergroup, Lark will notify group members and a Supergroup label will appear next to the group's name.
III. FAQs
What are the differences between supergroups and normal groups?

Can I create a new supergroup after I disband an existing supergroup?
Yes. Your organization can create up to 5 supergroups. If you have already reached this limit and choose to disband one, you will then be able to create a new supergroup.
Why can't some groups be turned into supergroups?
Groups cannot be turned into supergroups if:
  • The group has external members.
  • Your organization has already created 5 supergroups.
What is the maximum number of members in a supergroup?
Supergroups created from regular groups can have up to 50,000 members. Supergroups created from topic groups can have up to 20,000 members.
