I. Intro
Threads let you group related messages together within a chat. When you start a new thread, subsequent replies will be nested underneath, keeping the discussion organized and separate from the main chat. This prevents irrelevant notifications for uninvolved group members and makes it easier to follow the flow of the conversation.
II. Steps
Create a thread
Hover over a message and select the Reply in Thread icon. In the Thread pane that appears, send your reply. After you send your reply, a thread for this message is created.

If you want group members to read your reply in a thread, irrespective of whether they are a part of the thread, select Also send to the group before you send your reply. The reply will now appear both in the thread and in the main chat. Additionally, all group members will receive a notification.
Note: If you've created a thread in a private chat, you can select Also send to the chat.

III. FAQs
What's the difference between a thread and a topic group?
The differences are as follows:
  • A topic group is a specialized type of group where all messages must be posted in a thread format. Members create topics, and other group members can respond to those topics by posting replies in the corresponding threads. Topic groups are useful when you need a group focused on discussed specific topics. To learn more, see Use topic groups.
  • A thread is a collection of messages grouped together, consisting of an original messages and the replies to it. You can create threads in both private and group chats. If you don't need all members of a group to see your message, you can post it as a thread. Sending a reply within a thread does not affect your ability to send regular messages in the chat.
Why can't I view a thread after receiving a thread reply notification?
To view and reply to threads, update Lark to version 5.17 or above.
Why can I only view or reply to existing threads and not create threads myself?
To create threads, update Lark to version 5.17 or above.
How many thread replies can be displayed on one message card?
You can view up to five replies on a message card. To view earlier replies sent in the thread, click View earlier [number] replies on the card.
