Join a group chat

2 min read
I. Intro
In Lark, you may be added to a group chat by the group owner, group administrator, or a group member. However, you can also join a group chat if you've been given a group invitation card, group link, or group QR code.
Note:
  • External contacts cannot be invited to internal groups within the organization. If they are invited to an internal group in an external organization, a new external group will be created. To learn more, see Create an external group.
  • For public groups within an organization, you can search for the group name and join the group. However, if group authentication is turned on, you can only join after the group owner or a group administrator approves.
II. Steps
Directly added to the group
Group owners, group administrators, or other members with permissions to add group members and share groups can directly add you to the group chat. If this happens, you join the group without having to perform any steps.
Join the group through a group card
After receiving a group card shared by other group members, click Join on the group card to join the group chat.

III. FAQs
Why can't I join the group chat using the group link, group card, or QR code?
There are three possible reasons:
  • If the shared group link or QR code has expired, you won't be able to join the group. Please check if the group link or QR code you have is still within its validity period. If it has expired, please ask the member who shared it to generate a new one.
  • The group card is no longer valid. If the person who shared the card leaves the group or loses permission to add members or share the group, you won't be able to join the group chat using the group card. Please ask another group member to share a group card.
  • External contacts cannot join the internal group chat of a team. If the group chat is an internal group chat of an external organization, it cannot be joined.
