What should I do if I get an insufficient memory error when using Lark on Windows?

2 min read
I. Intro
When using Lark on Windows, insufficient memory on your device can prevent Lark from running properly and result in a system error. This issue can often be resolved by closing processes that consume too much memory or increasing your device's virtual memory.
II. Troubleshooting
Issue
When using Lark, you may encounter the following error message: "The device is low on memory and failed to start. Please refer to the Help Docs for solutions and try again."
Cause
This error occurs because your device doesn't have enough available memory.
In the Windows system, memory consists of physical memory and virtual memory. Virtual memory can be manually configured and is typically set to 1 to 2 times the size of the device's physical memory. For example, a device with 8 GB of physical memory can have virtual memory set between 8 GB and 16 GB. When a memory shortage occurs, you can address the issue by either ending other processes to free up memory or manually increasing the virtual memory allocation.
Solution
When a memory shortage error occurs, you can first check the memory usage of your device. According to the memory usage, you can choose to end the processes that consume too much memory or increase the available virtual memory of the system.
Note: Restarting the device can quickly release a large amount of memory and is an effective way to resolve insufficient memory issues.
Check memory usage
You can view the memory usage in Task Manager.
  1. Open Task Manager. You can search for Task Manager in the search bar in the lower-left corner of the desktop and open it, or press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open it.
  1. Click Performance in the left navigation bar and then select Memory.
The total physical memory of the device is displayed on the right side. The Committed section at the bottom shows the memory in use and the total memory size.

Based on memory usage, you can close processes that use too much memory or increase the available virtual memory.
Method 1: Close processes that use too much memory
Note: Restarting the device can also resolve memory shortages.
  1. Open Task Manager and click Details in the left navigation bar.
  1. Right-click the column headers and click Select columns.

  1. In the pop-up window, select Commit size and click OK. The Commit Size column will be displayed in the list.

  1. Click Commit Size in the header of the list and sort it in descending order. Right-click any process that uses too much memory and can be closed, then click End task.

Method 2: Increase virtual memory
If you need to increase the virtual memory of the operating system, see How to Increase Virtual Memory in Windows 10: A Quick Guide.
If the above actions do not resolve your issue, you can log in to the Lark official website and click the Headphone icon in the lower-right corner to contact Support. You can also contact Lark Support via email: support@larksuite.com.
