I. Intro
When opening the Lark app on Windows, if the currently logged-in user does not have write permissions for the Lark data folder, the Lark app cannot be opened.
II. Troubleshooting
Issue
The Lark app cannot be opened on Windows with an error message "Startup failed due to system permission restrictions. Please refer to the Help Docs for solutions and try again."
Cause and solution
This error occurs when the currently logged-in Windows user does not have the required write permissions for the app’s data folder. It can be resolved by adding permissions for the user.
Perform the following steps to view and add permissions:
Step 1. Get the username of the currently logged-in user
- Type CMD in the search box at the lower-left corner of the desktop and press Enter to open the Command Prompt.
- In the Command Prompt, type whoami and press Enter. The output will display the username of the currently logged-in user. Write down this username for future steps.
- Note: The username is the full value returned by the command.

Step 2. View and add permissions

- Find the data folder of Lark in the directory. The name of this folder is usually LarkShell, or it may start with LarkShell followed by a suffix.
- Right-click the data folder of Lark and select Properties in the context menu. Click the Security tab in the Properties window.
- Under Group or user names, check whether the currently logged-in user is listed. If the user is not listed or the list is empty, complete the remaining actions in this step to add the user. If the currently logged-in user is already listed, you can skip the remaining actions in this step and proceed to step 5.
- If the user is not listed or the list is empty, click Edit.
